Not more than 2 months ago, the US Embassy in Harare issued a statement saying that worn out, torn or dirty US dollars are legal tender as long as half of their form is recognizable. The statement was issued as a result of such notes were rejected to settle payments.
The US Embassy has yet again issued in response to the rejection of old US dollar notes. Indeed, US$ 100 bills that were made before 2013 are being rejected by both individuals and businesses to settle transactions.
However, the US Embassy said “that all designs of U.S. Federal Reserve notes remain legal tender, or legally valid for payments, regardless of when they were issued. This policy includes all denominations of Federal Reserve notes from 1914 to present”.

To put it differently, any US dollar note made after 1914 is legal tender. So in case your old note is rejected, you may take it to the bank in exchange for the latest version of the note.
